Pelvic Pain

Pelvic pain is pain felt in the lower abdomen, pelvis, or perineum.  It can also include the low back region.

Physical Therapy can

  • Show you how to identify the appropriate muscles and how to use them correctly for various functional activities
  • Work with you on exercises to stretch and strengthen the affected muscles so they work together optimally
  • Get you back to doing all of the activities you were able to perform before you experienced this pain

Your physical therapist also will determine whether you should be referred to a physician to assist in your interdisciplinary plan of care.

Incontinence

Incontinence refers to accidental leakage of urine or bowels. There are several types of urinary incontinence including stress, urge, mixed and functional incontinence.

The most common cause is weakness of muscles that attach to the pelvic bones in order to support the internal organs, control the bladder and bowel, and assist with sexual function (Pelvic Floor).

Pelvic Physical Therapy can:

  • Give you control over your bladder and your life
  • Save you money and embarrassment by requiring less pad protection
  • Reduce the need for medications to control incontinence
